Ninety percent of the ocean is devoid of sunlight, lying in a beautiful eternal darkness. As a consequence 76% (and possibly more) of marine organisms have evolved to produce their own light in the form of bioluminescence.

In this interactive installation spectators are invited to dip their hands in a bowl of seawater containing bioluminescent dinoflagellates.
Upon touch, dim blue dots similar to stars begin to light up in the once transparent water. The bioluminescent reaction to the human touch sparks a direct communication between the human and the dinoflagellates. Single celled organisms, communicating their presence to a human, two completely different organisms who share common ancestral origins.
