The mythological condition of the sea and its incomprehensible vastness make it hard to imagine an end and a beginning of such a space, in which the real and the imaginary flow together in one place. The desire and act of mapping the boundaries of the oceans is one of the largest cartographical quests of modern human society.

Fathom explores the technical mediation we are faced with when understanding places such as the seabed through cartographical representations, and the incremented distance caused by methods of representation, exploration and scale.

A mold of the Mariana Trench, the deepest known point in the Hydrosphere. Two halves representing the volume of water, the land below and the space in between.
The process of exploring technical mediation began with cnc milling the seafloor of the Messina Strait, a space whose waters are dense in ancient mythologies which span thousands of years.
